(Tiger Shovelnose × Planiceps Hybrid)
The Tiger “Firewood” Catfish is a rare and visually striking hybrid that combines the bold striping of the Tiger Shovelnose (Pseudoplatystoma sp.) with the elongated, streamlined body of Sorubimichthys planiceps. The result is a uniquely patterned predator featuring intense tiger barring over a sleek, “firewood”-like body shape that stands out in any large aquarium.
Highly sought after by collectors and monster fish enthusiasts, this hybrid showcases both beauty and predatory presence. Its elongated profile and active nature make it an impressive display fish in appropriately sized systems.
This hybrid is hardy but requires space, stability, and strong filtration to thrive.
Provide excellent filtration and regular water changes to manage its heavy bio-load. A secure lid is recommended.
Carnivorous with a strong feeding response.
Avoid feeder fish when possible to reduce disease risk.
This is a large, fast-growing hybrid requiring substantial space.
Long tanks with open swimming space are ideal. Keep décor minimal and smooth to prevent injury.
Best kept with large, robust species that cannot be swallowed.
Despite its predatory nature, it is typically not overly aggressive toward tank mates of similar size.
The Tiger “Firewood” Catfish is a rare hybrid that delivers a perfect blend of pattern, size, and presence. With its bold tiger striping and elongated body, it makes a standout addition to serious monster fish setups. Best suited for experienced aquarists, this fish rewards proper care with impressive growth and commanding display appeal.
