DESCRIPTION

Sicklefin Barb β€” Puntioplites falcifer

High-current strength with bold fin profile

The Sicklefin Barb is a powerful Southeast Asian river fish recognized for its tall, sharply curved dorsal fin and thick, torpedo-shaped body. Its silver-to-bronze base reflects light cleanly, while subtle darker edging along the fins enhances the β€œsickle” silhouette that gives this species its name. Built for endurance rather than flash, this barb brings movement and river energy to large aquariums.

Native to fast-flowing river systems in Thailand and surrounding regions, Puntioplites falcifer thrives in oxygen-rich water with steady current. It is a constant cruiser, preferring open swimming lanes where it can display its athletic build. When kept in groups, they move with coordinated strength, transforming large tanks into active river scenes.

Growing to 12–16+ inches, the Sicklefin Barb becomes a substantial schooling fish best suited for large aquariums or indoor pond systems.
