Short Body Endlicheri Bichir (Polypterus endlicherii)
The Short Body Endlicheri Bichir is a rare and highly sought-after variation of one of Africaβs most iconic prehistoric fish. With the same bold appearance and powerful build as a standard Endlicheri, this unique morph features a noticeably shorter, stockier body that gives it an even more impressive and muscular look. Its earthy tan coloration, dark mottled pattern, and row of distinctive dorsal finlets make it a true centerpiece in any large predatory aquarium.
Despite its compact body, this bichir retains the hardy nature and fascinating behavior the species is known for. It spends much of its time cruising the bottom, exploring every inch of the aquarium, and surfacing periodically to breathe air. Peaceful with similarly sized tank mates, the Short Body Endlicheri is an excellent choice for experienced keepers looking for something truly uncommon.
Care Level: Easy to Moderate
Temperament: Peaceful Predator
Diet: Carnivore (pellets, shrimp, fish, worms, and other meaty foods)
Max Size: 12β16 inches
Minimum Tank Size: 125 gallons
Origin: West & Central Africa
Scientific Name: Polypterus endlicherii
Due to its rarity and unique body shape, the Short Body Endlicheri Bichir is a prized addition for collectors and monster fish enthusiasts alike.
