Β
Pearled armor with fiery intensity
The Red Texas Cichlid is a bold, heavy-bodied hybrid strain known for its deep red base coloration layered with shimmering pearling. Unlike the wild-type Texas Cichlid, which carries a silver-gray body with blue spangling, the Red Texas morph intensifies into rich crimson to brick-red tones as it matures. The pearling β metallic white to blue speckling β spreads across the body and fins, creating a high-contrast armored look.
Built on the hardy Central American cichlid foundation, this species carries a thick frame, strong jaw structure, and assertive temperament. Mature males often develop increased head mass and enhanced color saturation. When properly conditioned, the red becomes deeper and more uniform, making it a dominant visual centerpiece.
Growing to 10β12+ inches, the Red Texas is best suited for experienced keepers with adequately sized aquariums and compatible tank mates.
