DESCRIPTION

Platinum Silver Arowana (Osteoglossum bicirrhosum)

The Platinum Silver Arowana is one of the most sought-after and visually stunning variants of Osteoglossum bicirrhosum, prized for its flawless, metallic white coloration and mirror-like sheen. Unlike standard silvers, this platinum form displays a near-perfect, uniform body tone that reflects light intensely, creating a sleek, almost liquid-metal appearance as it glides across the surface.

Extremely rare and highly difficult to obtain, the Platinum Silver Arowana is a true collector’s fish—often considered one of the most exclusive arowana variants available.

Native to the Amazon Basin, this species retains the iconic arowana profile: an elongated body, upturned mouth, and surface-oriented hunting behavior. Known for its intelligence and awareness, the Platinum Silver quickly becomes the dominant presence in any large aquarium.

Care & Husbandry

Tank Size:
A minimum of 180 gallons is required for juveniles, with 250–300+ gallons strongly recommended for adults. Long, wide aquariums with a tight-fitting, secure lid are essential due to their powerful jumping ability.

Diet:
Carnivorous predator with a strong feeding response:

  • High-quality carnivore pellets (train early for best results)
  • Frozen foods such as shrimp, silversides, and fish fillets
  • Live foods (insects like crickets, mealworms, roaches; occasional feeder fish)
  • Earthworms and other invertebrates for variety

Avoid over-reliance on feeder fish to minimize disease risk.

Tank Mates:
Only suitable with large, robust species:

  • Compatible: Datnoids, bichirs, stingrays, large catfish, large cichlids
  • Use Caution: Other arowanas (territorial and aggressive), similarly sized predators
  • Avoid: Small fish (will be eaten), aggressive fin-nippers, overly territorial species

Tank mates must be too large to be considered prey.

Water Parameters:

  • Temperature: 75–82°F
  • pH: 6.0–7.5
  • Water Hardness: Soft to moderately hard
  • Strong filtration and frequent water changes are critical due to heavy bioload

A video must be submitted with your claim clearly showing the fish is dead in its original packaging and a second video of the fish out of the bag and on a dry flat surface.
