DESCRIPTION

Platinum Jardini Arowana (Scleropages jardinii)

The Platinum Jardini Arowana is a rare and highly coveted variant of Scleropages jardinii, prized for its bright platinum-white base and intense pearling across each individual scale. This Australian species, often referred to as the “Gulf Saratoga,” is known for its heavy metallic spotting, which in platinum form creates a striking, almost glowing constellation pattern across the body.

Extremely rare and difficult to source, the Platinum Jardini is truly a one-of-a-kind specimen, making it a centerpiece reserved for serious collectors and high-end predator setups.

Compared to Silver Arowanas, Jardinis have a more compact, muscular build with a broader head and more aggressive demeanor. The platinum coloration enhances their already bold appearance, giving them a clean, high-contrast look that stands out in any large aquarium.

Highly active and extremely alert, the Platinum Jardini is a surface-oriented hunter with strong jumping ability and a reputation for attitude—making it a true showcase fish for experienced keepers.

Care & Husbandry

Tank Size:
A minimum of 180 gallons is required for juveniles, with 250+ gallons recommended for adults. A long tank with a secure, tight-fitting lid is essential due to their jumping behavior.

Diet:
Carnivorous predator with a strong feeding response:

  • High-quality carnivore pellets (best as a staple once trained)
  • Frozen foods such as shrimp, silversides, and fish fillets
  • Live foods (insects like crickets, mealworms, roaches; occasional feeder fish)
  • Earthworms and other invertebrates for variety

Training to pellets early is strongly recommended.

Tank Mates:
Requires careful selection due to aggression:

  • Compatible: Large, robust tank mates such as datnoids, bichirs, stingrays, large catfish
  • Use Caution: Large cichlids (may trigger aggression), other arowanas (high risk of conflict)
  • Avoid: Small fish (will be eaten), slow or timid species, and fin-nippers

Often best kept solo unless in a very large, carefully managed system.

Water Parameters:

  • Temperature: 75–82°F
  • pH: 6.0–7.5
  • Water Hardness: Soft to moderately hard
  • Strong filtration and regular water changes are essential
