Peruvian Altum Angelfish (Pterophyllum scalare)
The Peruvian Altum Angelfish is a highly sought-after variant of Pterophyllum scalare, bred to replicate the tall, majestic profile of true Altum angelfish while maintaining the adaptability of tank-raised stock. Known for their elongated bodies, elevated dorsal fins, and extended finnage, these angelfish offer a more dramatic, vertical presence than standard varieties.
Typically displaying silver bodies with bold vertical striping and subtle iridescent highlights, Peruvian Altums bring a natural, wild-type aesthetic to the aquarium. Their increased height and graceful movement make them standout centerpiece fish, especially in taller, well-structured setups.
While more forgiving than true Pterophyllum altum, they still require stable conditions and proper care. Like all angelfish, they exhibit semi-aggressive behavior and natural predatory instincts toward smaller tank mates.
