DESCRIPTION

Leopard Puffer Fish (Dichotomyctere nigroviridis)

Description:
The Leopard Puffer Fish (Dichotomyctere nigroviridis), also known as the Green Spotted Puffer, is a vibrant and highly interactive species prized for its bright green body covered in bold black spots. This eye-catching puffer is full of personality and quickly learns to recognize its owner, often greeting you at the glass. Its playful yet curious nature makes it a favorite among hobbyists looking for a fish with both beauty and character. As it matures, this species transitions from freshwater to brackish conditions, adding to its unique and rewarding care experience.

Diet:
Carnivorous.

  • Feeds on snails, shrimp, shellfish, worms, and other meaty foods
  • Hard-shelled foods (snails, clams) are essential to keep teeth trimmed
  • Accepts frozen foods such as bloodworms, krill, and shrimp
  • Feed 3–4 times per week

Behavior:

  • Semi-aggressive and can be territorial
  • Very intelligent and interactive with owners
  • Known fin-nipper — not suitable for community tanks
  • Best kept alone or with extreme caution in specialized setups

Max Size:

  • Up to 6–7 inches (15–18 cm)

Tank Mates:

  • Not recommended for most setups
  • May be kept with fast, robust brackish species, but risk is high
  • Ideal as a species-only showcase fish

Tank Size:

  • Minimum: 55 gallons
  • Requires transition to brackish water as it matures
  • Strong filtration and regular maintenance are essential
  • Provide open swimming space along with hiding areas

A video must be submitted with your claim clearly showing the fish is dead in its original packaging and a second video of the fish out of the bag and on a dry flat surface.
