L452 Mustang Cactus Pleco — Pseudacanthicus sp.
Armored power with collector pattern
The L452 Mustang Cactus Pleco is a true heavy-duty pleco — thick, muscular, and built more like a river tank than a glass-cleaner. Its dark charcoal base is broken by sharp light spotting and banding that resembles splattered paint across armor plating. Large odontodes (cheek spines) and a broad head give it the unmistakable “cactus pleco” look, while the flowing tail adds contrast to its otherwise rugged profile.
Originating from fast, rocky South American river systems, this species is adapted to high oxygen and strong current. Unlike algae-grazing plecos, Pseudacanthicus are omnivorous predators and scavengers, spending their time wedged into wood and rock before emerging to feed. As they mature, males develop longer odontodes and heavier structure, turning into impressive display fish rather than background cleaners.
Reaching 12–16+ inches, the L452 becomes a commanding bottom presence in monster aquariums and pairs well with large fish that respect its space.
