The Sveni Eartheater (Geophagus sveni), Paraná variant, is a stunning South American cichlid prized for its refined coloration, elegant body shape, and natural behavior. Originating from the Paraná River system, this variant often displays enhanced red, orange, and iridescent blue tones, along with delicate patterning and extended finnage.
As part of the Geophagus genus, these “eartheaters” are known for their unique sand-sifting behavior, constantly foraging through substrate in search of food. Their peaceful temperament and graceful movements make them a standout choice for large, natural-style aquariums.
Sveni Eartheaters are relatively hardy but thrive best in clean, well-maintained environments.
Keep in groups of 5 or more to encourage natural behavior and reduce stress. Excellent filtration and regular water changes are important.
Omnivorous with a preference for small, protein-rich foods.
Feeding sinking foods is ideal due to their bottom-feeding habits.
A fine sand substrate is essential to support natural sifting behavior. Include driftwood and open areas for foraging.
Excellent for peaceful South American community setups.
Their calm nature makes them ideal for mixed, large community aquariums.
The Paraná variant of Geophagus sveni is a beautiful and peaceful cichlid that brings both color and natural behavior to the aquarium. With its elegant appearance and engaging sand-sifting habits, it’s an exceptional choice for aquarists seeking a dynamic yet harmonious display.
