Albino Granulosus Catfish — Pterodoras granulosus
The armored bulldozer of South America

The Albino Granulosus is a fish that looks prehistoric even by monster fish standards. Thick plates of bony armor, oversized pectoral spines, and a massive shovel-shaped head make this species feel closer to a relic than a modern aquarium fish. The albino morph amplifies every detail — creamy white body, peach undertones, and glowing red eyes that highlight the heavy texture of its plated skin.

Native to the large river systems of the Amazon and Paraná basins, Pterodoras granulosus spends its life along the bottom, slowly cruising and digging through wood, sand, and debris for food. Unlike fast predators, this catfish relies on durability and confidence. It does not rush — it simply moves forward, and everything around it respects the space it takes.

Reaching 20–24+ inches, the Albino Granulosus becomes a true presence fish. It thrives in large aquariums with driftwood structure and other robust tank mates such as big cichlids, pacu, datnoids, and arowana. Despite its intimidating armor, it is generally composed and predictable, making it a reliable addition to monster communities when given adequate room.

Feeding time is where personality shows. These catfish use powerful barbels to locate food instantly, bulldozing substrate and pushing aside smaller fish without aggression — pure confidence rather than hostility. Their heavy plating also makes them hardy and adaptable once established.

At Predatory Fins we consider this species part tank décor, part living fossil.
You don’t just keep an Albino Granulosus… you add a moving piece of the riverbed.

A fish built less for speed — and more for surviving everything.
