DESCRIPTION

Albino Golden Veiltail Angelfish (Pterophyllum scalare)

The Albino Golden Veiltail Angelfish is a refined and elegant variant of Pterophyllum scalare, combining soft golden hues with the luminous qualities of albino genetics and the dramatic flow of veiltail finnage. Its pale, creamy-gold body is complemented by bright red eyes and long, trailing fins that move effortlessly through the water, creating a graceful, high-end display.

This variety showcases the classic angelfish silhouette but is elevated by its extended dorsal, anal, and caudal fins, giving it a more delicate and flowing appearance compared to standard strains. Under proper lighting, the golden tones subtly glow, making it a standout centerpiece in planted or display aquariums.

Despite their peaceful look, Albino Golden Veiltails are still semi-aggressive cichlids with mild predatory tendencies, especially toward smaller tank mates.

Care & Husbandry

Tank Size:
A minimum of 29 gallons is suitable for a single specimen, though 40+ gallons is recommended for pairs or community setups. Taller aquariums are strongly preferred to support their long, flowing fins.

Diet:
Omnivorous with a preference for protein-rich foods:

  • High-quality cichlid pellets or flakes (staple diet)
  • Frozen foods such as bloodworms, mysis shrimp, and brine shrimp
  • Live foods (blackworms, feeder shrimp) for conditioning and enrichment
  • Supplement with spirulina or vegetable-based foods for balance

Feed 1–2 times daily in moderate portions.

Tank Mates:
Carefully select tank mates that won’t nip their fins:

  • Compatible: Larger peaceful tetras, gouramis, rainbowfish, Corydoras, plecos, and other semi-peaceful fish
  • Use Caution: Other angelfish (pairing and territorial behavior), certain barbs depending on temperament
  • Avoid: Fin-nippers (tiger barbs, serpae tetras), very small fish (neon tetras, guppies), and shrimp

Water Parameters:

  • Temperature: 76–82Β°F
  • pH: 6.0–7.5
  • Water Hardness: Soft to moderately hard
  • Maintain stable, clean water with regular water changes
