Apex stripes. Elite presence.
The 3-Bar Indo Datnoid is one of the most sought-after tiger fish in the hobby. Thick, jet-black vertical bands laid over a rich golden-yellow body create the unmistakable “3-bar” pattern collectors chase. As they mature and settle, the gold deepens and the contrast sharpens, especially when the fish is confident and properly conditioned. Few freshwater predators match the bold symmetry and attitude of a high-grade Indo.
Native to river systems of Indonesia and Southeast Asia, Datnioides microlepis is a visual predator. It tracks movement carefully before striking with sudden power. Unlike chaotic hunters, the Indo Datnoid moves with control — hovering midwater, watching everything in the tank. They are highly aware fish that quickly recognize feeding routines and often follow activity outside the glass.
Growing to 16–18+ inches, this species becomes a true centerpiece in large predator setups. They establish hierarchy without nonstop aggression when given adequate space and compatible tank mates.
Minimum Tank Size: 180 gallons (6 ft length minimum; 240+ gallons ideal long-term)

Best with large, confident species:
Arowana
Large catfish
Bichirs
