Serpentine power with rare pale contrast
The Marbled Leucistic Japanese Eel is a striking twist on a true river legend. This rare luecistic color morph is a white to creamy yellow Eel with black marble patches. Instead of the typical olive-brown coloration, this leucistic form displays creamy white to pale ivory tones marbled with soft gray patterning. The reduced pigmentation highlights the eel’s muscular body and fluid movement, turning an already fascinating species into a rare visual centerpiece.
Native to East Asian river systems, Anguilla japonica is a catadromous species — born in the ocean and migrating upstream into freshwater to grow. In the aquarium, it behaves as a powerful nocturnal hunter. By day it burrows into substrate or hides within wood and rockwork; by night it emerges to patrol the tank with smooth, serpentine motion.
Growing to 24–36+ inches, this is a serious long-term species requiring space and secure housing. Eels are intelligent, strong, and extremely escape-prone, making proper setup critical.
