The Orange Striped Synodontis (Synodontis flavitaeniatus) is a rare and visually striking African catfish known for its bold orange to yellow striping set against a dark body. Native to the Congo River Basin, this species stands out among Synodontis for its vivid coloration and sleek, active nature.
Like many members of the genus, this species exhibits fascinating behaviors, including active nocturnal foraging and the ability to swim upside down. Its combination of color, personality, and hardiness makes it a standout addition to specialized African or oddball community setups.
A hardy species that adapts well when provided with proper conditions and shelter.
Provide plenty of caves, driftwood, and shaded areas. Moderate to strong filtration is recommended, along with regular water changes.
Omnivorous with a strong preference for protein-rich foods.
Will scavenge but should be directly fed to ensure proper nutrition.
Use soft substrate and plenty of hiding spaces. Dim lighting will encourage natural behavior.
Best kept with similarly sized, non-aggressive to moderately assertive species.
Can be kept singly or in groups if adequate space and shelter are provided.
The Orange Striped Synodontis is a rare and eye-catching catfish that combines bold coloration with classic Synodontis personality. Ideal for aquarists looking to add something unique to their African or oddball setups, this species offers both beauty and engaging behavior.
