The Emperor Cichlid is the undisputed giant of the cichlid world and one of the most impressive freshwater fish available to advanced aquarists. With adults capable of exceeding 30 inches, this species is built for dominance in large, open-water environments.
Displaying a sleek silver to gray body with subtle patterning and a slightly iridescent sheen, the Emperor Cichlid may appear understated in colorβbut makes up for it with sheer size, strength, and behavior. Highly intelligent and extremely territorial as they mature, Emperor Cichlids are best suited for experienced keepers with the space and resources to properly house them.
