DESCRIPTION

Albino Chinese Perch (Siniperca chuatsi)

The Albino Chinese Perch is a rare and eye-catching variant of this highly predatory Asian species, featuring a pale, almost translucent body with subtle patterning and intense feeding behavior. Known for its ambush hunting style and sharp instincts, this fish is both beautiful and formidable. Native to rivers and lakes in China, the Albino Chinese Perch is best suited for experienced aquarists looking for a unique, aggressive centerpiece predator.

Diet

Albino Chinese Perch are strict carnivores and often require training to accept prepared foods:

  • Live fish (often required initially)
  • Frozen/thawed fish (silversides, smelt — can be trained)
  • Shrimp and other meaty foods

āš ļø This species can be difficult to convert to pellets and may refuse non-live foods at first.

Tank Requirements

  • Minimum Tank Size: 125–180 gallons
  • Water Type: Freshwater
  • Temperature: 68–78°F
  • pH: 6.5–7.5
  • Setup: Dim lighting with open swimming space and some structure; strong filtration required

Prefers cooler water compared to many tropical predators.

Size

  • Current Sale Size: Typically 4–7 inches

Max Size

  • Maximum Adult Size: 20–28 inches

Tank Mates

Tank mates must be chosen very carefully:

  • Compatible (with caution): Large, fast, and robust fish that cannot fit in its mouth
  • Use caution: Highly aggressive feeding behavior may lead to attacks
  • Avoid: Small to medium fish, slow-moving species

Often best kept alone or with very carefully selected tank mates.

Temperament

Highly predatory and aggressive feeder. Not overly territorial, but extremely food-driven and capable of sudden attacks.

āš ļø Important Note

This species is known for being challenging to feed and may require live food long-term, making it best suited for advanced hobbyists.

A video must be submitted with your claim clearly showing the fish is dead in its original packaging and a second video of the fish out of the bag and on a dry flat surface.
