The Tocantinsia piresi is a really unique South American catfish known for its dark body covered in bright cream or gold spots and long flowing fins. It has a very “wild” look to it and becomes a real centerpiece fish once it gets some size. Even though it looks aggressive, it’s actually a pretty calm species when kept with the right tank mates.
This fish does best in larger aquariums with driftwood, strong filtration, and good water movement. They spend a lot of time resting on wood or cruising around the bottom of the tank.
Max Size
Usually around 12–16 inches in captivity, sometimes larger in big systems.
Tank Size

Recommended: 180+ gallons for adults
A larger footprint is important since they get pretty bulky and active.
