DESCRIPTION

Albino Golden Arrowhead Catfish — Pseudobagrus sp.

Streamlined predator with glowing contrast

The Albino Golden Arrowhead Catfish is a sleek, fast-water Asian species that combines sharp structure with eye-catching coloration. Its elongated body and pointed, triangular head give it a true “arrowhead” profile, while the albino morph replaces natural camouflage with soft golden-cream tones and ruby eyes. Under aquarium lighting, the body takes on a warm metallic glow that stands out beautifully against darker backgrounds.

Native to river systems across East Asia, Pseudobagrus species are built for current. Unlike heavy, bottom-sitting catfish, the Arrowhead actively cruises mid-to-lower water levels, especially at dusk. It is alert, responsive, and quick at feeding time — darting forward with precision rather than bulldozing like larger South American cats.

Reaching 8–12 inches depending on lineage, this species makes an excellent medium-sized predator for river-style setups.

Aquarium Setup

  • Minimum Tank Size: 90–125 gallons

  • Substrate: Sand or smooth gravel

  • Flow: Moderate to strong current preferred

  • Décor: Driftwood, rock structure, shaded retreats

  • Lighting: Moderate to subdued

  • Cover: Tight lid recommended — active swimmer

Tank Mates

Best housed with similarly sized, confident species:

  • Larger barbs

  • Silver Dollars

  • Medium to large cichlids (non-hyper aggressive)

  • Other sturdy catfish

Avoid very small fish — they may be eaten. Avoid extremely aggressive tank mates that may outcompete or stress them.

  • pH: 6.5–7.5

  • Hardness: Soft to medium

  • Filtration: Strong biological filtration

  • Oxygen: High dissolved oxygen preferred

  • Water Quality: Clean, stable conditions essential
