The L236 Super Yellow Pleco is one of the most coveted and visually stunning plecos in the hobby. Known for its intense yellow base coloration contrasted with intricate black patterning, this rare Hypancistrus species is highly sought after by collectors and serious aquarists alike. Each specimen displays unique markings, making every fish a one-of-a-kind showpiece.
Originating from the Xingu River system in Brazil, L236 plecos are part of the same lineage as the famed Zebra Pleco (L046), but stand out with their brighter yellow tones and variable pattern expressions.
L236 Super Yellow Plecos require stable, pristine water conditions and a well-oxygenated environment to thrive.
Provide strong filtration, high oxygenation, and moderate to strong water flow. Plenty of caves and hiding spots are essential, especially if keeping multiple individuals.
Primarily carnivorous, unlike many algae-grazing plecos.
They may graze lightly but should not be relied upon for algae control. A protein-rich diet is key to maintaining health and coloration.
Use fine substrate with plenty of rockwork and caves. Maintain excellent water quality with regular water changes.
Best kept with peaceful, non-aggressive species.
Can be kept in groups if ample hiding spaces are provided, though some territorial behavior may occur.
The L236 Super Yellow Pleco is a rare gem that combines vivid coloration with intricate patterning, making it a standout addition to any high-end freshwater setup. Best suited for experienced aquarists, this species rewards proper care with unmatched beauty and uniqueness.
